IKEA confirms plans to open its latest store in Sussex. – How will this transform the local economy?
Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club own the land north of its training ground in Lancing which is to be the site of a big development including a new site for the retail giant IKEA as part of a wider regeneration plan for Lancing.
The development will create 600 homes, a new school, community centre, park and retail sites for household name stores with IKEA being the first to confirm. 900 new jobs will be created in the Adur area as a result, most of which will be at the furniture giant IKEA.
This has become a local talking point and a wealth of support has been received. Some concerns were raised over the additional pressure on the road network but developers have assured that a major roundabout will be built in place of the Sussex Pad traffic lights to improve traffic flow for commuters and people living in the area.
Other concerns about the site being on a flood plane were squashed by the developers who say that action would be taken to reduce the risk of the flooding. The Environment Agency are building a new tidal walls project along the western bank of the Adur, but we’re also putting in additional protection along the eastern side of the site to meet requirements for tidal flooding.
We envisage the renovation of Lancing to have a positive effect on house prices in the surrounding areas of Shoreham and Worthing too. Worthing has already seen a 16% increase in house prices from 2014 and Shoreham a staggering 22% increase.
