Change in all things is sweet”

At last, the seasons are changing. Welcome Spring!

After the winter we’ve had, a change of season and a few days of sunshine lifts everyone’s spirits. The promise of warmer days and lighter evenings makes us look forward to other things we want to change in our lives and Spring is traditionally the most popular time of the year to move home. So the question we’re asking this month is: is 2014 the year that you wish to move house?

Is it a good time to move?

The general consensus at the moment is that 2014 should be a great year to move home. The property market is lively and if you already own a home, this is probably the best time to try and sell since 2008. Recently revised predictions are that house prices will rise 27% in the next 5 years.* So if you wish to live in a desirable area such as many parts of the South-East then it might make sense to catch the crest of the wave as it moves upwards before houses become less affordable.

It’s also widely thought that interest rates will rise next year. Most are predicting rates to rise slowly to protect against a housing crash that would have further effects across the whole economy. This should mean that mortgages will continue to be competitive for some time to come.

If you’re thinking about a possibly move, then what should you consider?

Although the general mood is upbeat it’s always important to consider affordability (not just now, but long term) and also ensure that you are adequately protected for any financial commitments you take on.

We are proud to offer a highly personalised service that is honest and thorough. If you’re interested in moving house this year and would like to see what your options are then please get in touch.
